Michael received his Master's degree from The University of Houston in Voice and dual Bachelor's degrees in Voice Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College. Currently he is working towards a D.M.A. in choral conducting under the instruction of Dr. Charles Hausmann at the University of Houston where he has also worked with the university choirs and prepared choruses for the Moores School Opera Department. Michael has served on the faculties of Texas Southern University, Sam Houston State University, Lee College, and San Jacinto College and formerly was the Director of Music at The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his church work Michael is the director of the Highschool division of the Houston Boychoir and director of the Houston Revels - a production company that produces a community Christmas production each year downtown. Michael is also serving on the 2015 Texas Annual Conference Worship Planning Team and, for the 5th year in a row, will be teaching at the Texas Conference Choir Clinic at Lakeview Retreat Center.
As a singer Michael has appeared with the Houston Symphony singing solos in Schubert's Mass in E-flat and also sang the baritone solos from the Operatic Scene from Nabuo Uematsu's Grammy Award winning "Final Fantasy." In addition to over a dozen performed operatic leading roles Michael's favorite performed concert repertoire includes the baritone solos of Requiems by Brahms, Mozart, and Faure and Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem.
Michael's voice students have won major awards and scholarships throughout the United States with several students singing in Broadway productions and in major opera houses. His favorite Broadway Musical conducting credits include Urinetown, Into the Woods, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Once Upon a Mattress. Michael's productions as vocal music director for Klein High School's musicals were nominated 4 years in a row for best ensemble, music direction, and best show with a win in 2012 for 'best chorus/ensemble' in the highly regarded Tommy Tune Awards in the Houston area.
